Aquila was a Jewish artisan born in Pontus; Priscilla is nearly always named beside him and is sometimes named first. Expulsion from Rome brought them to Corinth, where they met Paul through their common work as tentmakers. Daily labour, hospitality and gospel ministry became one integrated way of life.
The couple later moved to Ephesus. Rather than embarrass Apollos publicly when they saw gaps in his understanding, they invited him home and taught him patiently. Paul remembered them as co-workers who risked their lives for him, and churches met in their homes in Rome and Ephesus. Their story shows that the church grows not only from pulpits, but also around tables, in workshops and through open homes.
