A living faithin a historic place.

The psalmist looks toward the mountains and asks where help will come from, then lifts his faith beyond them to their Maker. In difficult moments we often search for security in our own strength, other people, or a quick change of circumstances. God may use people and practical means, but none of them is the true source of our help. The One who made heaven and earth is greater than the trouble before us and sees farther than we can. Trusting him is not avoiding responsibility; it is refusing to carry the whole weight alone. We can bring today’s need honestly to our faithful Creator and leave the manner and timing of his help in his hands. Let us turn our eyes from the size of our fear to the greatness of the Lord.

Maker of heaven and earth, I look to you for help today. When my strength is not enough, teach me to turn to you instead of giving way to panic. Keep me from treating people or resources as security apart from you. Give me wisdom to see the problem clearly, do what is mine to do, and entrust the outcome to you. Do not let my heart surrender to despair while I wait. Help me trust that you are working even where I cannot see. Use me as an instrument of your compassion for someone who needs help today. Lift my eyes from the weight of circumstances to your power. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
